Sonic Stomp Tribute
I built this pretty much exactly as per the Lumin specs.
I used the recommended capacitor selections for the High and Low Frequency switches, and the Midrange knob. I also happened to have three Burr Brown OPA2134s handy for the dual op-amps.
I designed the enclosure artwork as a hybrid of all of the BBE versions so it retained a bit of the “look” I was after.
Sound-wise, at the moment I have the Contour at about 2 o’clock, the Process at about 12 o’clock, and the Midrange at 12 o’clock. I’m still trying the different switch selections – they make subtle but noticeable changes depending on pickups and drive settings.
I place it last in my amp’s effects loop after all of the modulation pedals. Compression, drive and boost are floor mounted leading into the amp so the Sonic Stomp affects the entire signal chain.
I like the extra clarity the pedal provides and the punch in the bottom end. These are EQ changes I couldn’t get from my amp’s tone stack. Could an EQ pedal do the same? Maybe. But, there is that “something” about the sound that this pedal produces that I’m liking right now.
